What 𗪰 means
It is glossed as “wife” in Tangut. A linguistic reconstruction transcribes its reading as gji².
The Tangut state developed its script in 1036 for administration and Buddhist translation. It drew visual and structural ideas from Chinese characters and Khitan writing; the Khitan were another people with their own script. Tangut remained a separate script, not a form of Chinese. Andrew West’s 2020 review discusses a possible earliest dated example of Tangut writing from 1070/1071; that dates the script generally, not this character. Later texts include Buddhist writings, translations of Chinese texts, literature and official records.
If 𗪰 appears as a blank box, the font lacks Tangut coverage; the character itself has not changed.
An uncaptioned use in a modern message points to Tangut or historical-script study.
Its Chinese-influenced structure does not make it Chinese: 𗪰 belongs to Tangut writing.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗪰 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
