What 𗫕 means
Its catalog label names the character, not its English meaning.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 for the Western Xia (Xixia) state. It served administration, schools, official documents and diplomacy. Buddhist works translated from Chinese and Tibetan were also printed from carved blocks; after the state fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in religious and historical works.
𗫕 is indexed under a rhyme heading in the 12th-century Sea of Writing, a Tangut dictionary organized by how syllables sound. A 2024 reconstruction classifies its reading as tone 1, a pitch pattern in speech; that label gives pronunciation, not an English translation.
How do I type 𗫕?
Enter its Unicode value through hexadecimal input.
Use a Unicode-aware input method that accepts hexadecimal values and enter U17AD5. Exact steps depend on your operating system and app; a standard keyboard layout may not include Tangut.
Why is 𗫕 a box?
The active font may not include Tangut.
This is a text character, so a font must include Tangut glyphs to display it. If it appears as an empty box, select a Unicode font with Tangut coverage in the app where you are viewing it.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗫕 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
