What 𗬠 means
A Tangut dictionary or passage supplies its reading. The Unicode label is generated from the character's code number; it identifies the written form but gives no Tangut word or pronunciation.
Tangut forms resemble Chinese writing, but the scripts are separate. A character's shape does not supply a Chinese reading or reveal the Tangut word by itself.
When was Tangut writing used, and why?
It began as a state script for the Tangut language. In 1036, the rulers of Western Xia ordered a writing system for recording Tangut and translating Chinese classics. The Tangut-led state lasted 1038–1227.
After the state ended, Tangut still appeared in manuscripts and inscriptions, especially Buddhist texts, into 1502.
