What 𗭯 means
Its standalone meaning is uncertain. The teaching verse Grains of Gold Placed in the Palm aligns it with 羊 in a parallel list of Chinese names. Here 羊 is a surname, so the pairing does not establish “sheep” as its general meaning.
Tangut (Xixia) is a separate script for the Tangut language, spoken in northwestern China. Created under Western Xia around 1036, it served official, private and religious texts. Use continued through Yuan and Ming, then ended by the Ming's close. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century and largely deciphered it in the early 20th.
