What 𗮷 means
No single English gloss is secure.
Tangut data gives the reconstructed reading zjwɨ¹. Li Fanwen’s 2008 English index places catalog number 5512 under “rickets” with two other characters, so read it as a grouping, not a standalone definition.
Khara-Khoto manuscripts from the 12th or early 13th century contain Buddhist and translated Chinese works. Tangut writing began in 1036 under Li Yuanhao, serving state-building and a distinct identity from Song China. Chinese writing influenced the script, but individual Tangut characters are not simply derived from Chinese or Khitan, a neighboring medieval script.
Scholarly or archival; unexplained, it reads as an obscure text character.
Do not label it Chinese or use it as a universal illness symbol.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗮷 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
