What 𗰽 means
“Wall.” It names a Tangut word, not a Chinese character.
Is 𗰽 Chinese?
No; it belongs to a separate Tangut script. The Western Xia court made it official in 1036 to mark independence from China’s Song dynasty. Chinese histories disagree whether Li Yuanhao or his father began it; scholar Yeli Renrong developed the script. Tangut characters were inspired by Chinese writing but not derived from it. The neighboring Khitan kingdom offered an earlier model. Tangut records, translations and Buddhist texts used the script; Buddhist inscriptions continued after the kingdom fell in 1227, including one dated 1502.
