What 𗱏 means
It means “to choke on something” in Tangut.
Tangut dictionaries gloss it as “to choke on something”; ¹pu₁ is the scholarly transcription of its reconstructed reading, not an everyday pronunciation guide.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 for the Western Xia state and probably also to support a Tangut Buddhist canon. It drew on Chinese and earlier Khitan scripts but remained distinct. A Khara-Khoto manuscript, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, shows 𗱏 in Tangut translations of Chinese literature.
Historical and specialist; its choking sense belongs to Tangut vocabulary.
Without Tangut context, readers may not recognize its meaning.
