What 𗲻 means
Its Unicode name identifies the character, not its word meaning.
Li Fanwen's 2008 Tangut dictionary gives a scholarly reconstructed reading, written tha̱¹. This notation records a reconstructed sound, not a translation; the word meaning needs a Tangut dictionary entry and its surrounding sentence.
When did the Tangut script first appear?
The Tangut script entered official use in 1036.
The Western Xia court commissioned it for writing Tangut. Its character structures drew on Chinese writing, but the script represented a different language and served official life as well as a large Buddhist translation tradition.
After the Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in religious texts. Two Buddhist pillars dated 1502 are the last known examples.
