tangut ideograph-17cbc

Tangut character 17CBC

3261/6136

𗲼 is a Tangut character; its label gives no reading or translation. Created around 1036 for Buddhist texts and Tangut identity, the script outlived Western Xia. A manuscript from Khara-khoto, a Tangut-era site, dated to the 12th or early 13th century, shows its use for translated Chinese literature. Influenced by Chinese and Khitan writing, it remained distinct and fell out of use by the end of the Ming dynasty.

Why does 𗲼 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
