What 𗳀 means
A historical Tangut dictionary translates it as “soft.”
Scholars reconstruct its Tangut reading as mej². A one-word dictionary meaning cannot tell you whether a sender means texture, manner, or something else.
Where did the Tangut script begin?
Western Xia developed the Tangut script around 1036.
The kingdom lay in what is now northwestern China. The script was made to write Tangut and appears in official, private, and Buddhist texts. After Western Xia fell in 1227, writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule into the 16th century. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century; work by N. A. Nevskij in the early 20th century helped decipher it.
Why does 𗳀 appear as a box?
Your active font needs Tangut coverage to draw it.
Unicode records the character, while a font supplies its visible shape. Tangut fonts may preserve different historical glyph forms.
At home in Tangut references and historical texts; outside that context, expect it to need explanation.
A dictionary gloss is not a dependable translation of a standalone message.

2Can I read 𗳀 as a Chinese character?
No. Tangut is a separate script from Chinese writing. Some character shapes look similar, but this glyph has a Tangut reading, not a Chinese one.
Why does 𗳀 appear as a box?
The selected font may lack Tangut coverage. Choose a font that supports Tangut; different Tangut fonts may also draw historical glyph forms differently.
