What 𗴸 means
It is glossed as hair worn in a bun or coil.
Comparative scholarship gives the Tangut reading as *tswa¹, roughly “tswah”: start with the “ts” at the end of “cats,” then say “wah.” The asterisk marks a reconstructed pronunciation, an informed estimate rather than a recording.
Tangut writing was created around 1036 for the Tangut language and official culture of Western Xia, a kingdom in northwestern China. Its forms drew on Chinese writing and Khitan script, another writing system used in the region. Buddhist, legal, and manuscript records survive from the mid-11th through early 13th centuries; the script continued through the Yuan and Ming before becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming.

If a font lacks this glyph, it may show a box; the text still contains the same Tangut character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗴸 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
