What 𗵤 means
Its dictionary gloss is “nature.”
Unicode’s Tangut data, checked 2025-07-30, maps 𗵤 to Li Fanwen entry 0007, glossed “nature” in the 2008 dictionary. The Tangut script was visually inspired by Chinese writing but is a separate script for the Tangut language.
Western Xia ordered Tangut writing in 1036 for state-building and a collection of Buddhist scriptures; its rulers followed neighboring Khitan rulers, who had created their own scripts about a century earlier. A manuscript found at the Khara-khoto ruins in Inner Mongolia probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued in Yuan and Ming texts before becoming obsolete.
For Tangut writing or historical discussion; the dictionary gloss alone is not a modern way to say “nature.”
Chinese-inspired in shape; still Tangut.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗵤 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
