What 𗶗 means
It means “ride” or “carry/load” in Tangut.
Chinese dictionary glosses 乘 and 載 point to riding, carrying, or loading. The entry appears in the 12th-century Homophones, a Tangut glossary that groups characters by sound, so this reading comes from a historical word entry.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It served Western Xia’s state and Buddhist translation work.
The Tangut script was devised around 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao. It gave the Tangut language a writing system for Buddhist scripture, government work, law, and translations from Chinese and Tibetan. Some shapes resemble Chinese characters, but Tangut is a separate script for a different language.
Tangut writing continued after the Mongol conquest in 1227: texts were still produced after Western Xia fell, and the latest known Tangut inscription is dated 1502.
Why does 𗶗 show as a box?
It needs a Tangut-capable font; without one, it may show as a box.
𗶗 is a text character, so font support controls its visible shape. A browser may render it with a Tangut web font, while another app can show an empty box if no Tangut font is available. The underlying text can still be intact.
Tangut tools offer phonetic entry using reconstructed spellings, stroke entry, or four-corner lookup. Select a Tangut dictionary or IME candidate; a modern Chinese keyboard does not provide a dedicated Tangut key.
Historical and scholarly; it reads as archival in modern text.
Without a Tangut font, the recipient may see a blank box.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗶗 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
