What 𗶵 means
Its dictionary gloss is “to mate.” Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary, which explains Tangut words in Chinese, indexes it as LFW 4472.
The Tangut script, a writing system for the Tangut language, was developed for the Western Xia court around 1036 and also marked the state’s identity. An early catalogue of Tangut characters, Tóngyīn (“Homophones”), was first printed in 1125. Tangut writing continued after Western Xia was conquered in 1227 into the Ming period, alongside projects to create Khitan and Jurchen scripts. It resembles Chinese writing but is a separate script. The first recorded appearance of 𗶵 is undated, and no later sense is documented as of 2026.
Historical and specialist; its meaning is not obvious from the character alone.
Its Chinese-like shape belongs to Tangut writing, a separate script.

1Why does 𗶵 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
