What 𗸒 means
It means “earth” or “land” in Tangut.
Li Fanwen’s 2008 dictionary records its reading as su.
Commissioned in 1036 for Western Xia, a northwestern Chinese state, the Tangut script served government, Buddhist scripture, and Tangut identity alongside China’s Song dynasty. Its characters drew on Chinese models but wrote another language. The earliest surviving example is an official document from 1072. Tangut writing continued in religious and other texts after Western Xia fell in 1227; a 1502 inscription is later evidence.
Specialist and historical; a lone use points to Tangut writing.
Is 𗸒 Chinese? No; it belongs to Tangut writing, shaped by Chinese models.
