tangut ideograph-17e1e

Tangut character 17E1E

3615/6136

𗸞 is a Tangut character glossed “wither”—to dry up or lose vigor. Tangut was a separate script for the language of the Western Xia kingdom in northwest China; a historical account dates its creation by imperial order to 1036. It drew on Chinese writing forms but cannot be read as Chinese. Tangut Buddhist texts continued after Western Xia fell in 1227; its latest known inscriptions date to 1502.

Why does 𗸞 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
