What 𗻐 means
𗻐 is glossed as a kind of grass.
It belongs to the Tangut script, also called Tangraph, a distinct writing system modeled chiefly on Chinese writing. The Western Xia state was also known as Xixia.
How did the Tangut script begin?
It began as a state writing project.
The Tangut creation account places the script's launch in 1036: Li Yuanhao initiated the project, and Yeli Renrong developed it. Chinese writing was its main model, with probable Khitan influence.
The script served official communication and education and was used to translate Chinese classics and Buddhist texts. After the Mongols conquered the Western Xia in 1227, later Buddhist use is recorded in a 1345 inscription and on the Baoding Buddhist pillars dated 1502.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗻐 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
