What 𗶟 means
Its English gloss is disputed. Modern references give either “etiquette” or “a kind of grass”; neither should be treated as settled without a surrounding Tangut passage.
Scholars transcribe its reconstructed Tangut reading in Latin letters as “mbu” or “bu̱.” These spellings report a proposed reading; they are not English glosses.
Why was the Tangut script made?
It gave the Tangut language a writing system. Tangut writing began around 1036 under the Western Xia state and served official texts, Buddhist works, and translations from Chinese.
In Unicode 10.0, this character's encoded glyph was corrected after comparison with historical forms. That correction changes its displayed drawing, not the identity of the character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗶟 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
