What 𘂨 means
Its gloss is “surname”; scholars transcribe it as mbai.
Tangut writing was created under the first Western Xia emperor about 1036 CE to write the Tangut language. It appeared in official records, private writing, religious scriptures, inscriptions, and manuscripts. The script continued after the Mongol conquest of Western Xia and became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
Tangut is a separate script for the Tangut language, though its shapes can resemble Chinese ideographs. Historical sources preserve variant forms of this character, so a font may draw it differently without changing which character it is.
Use it in Tangut texts or historical-script discussion; alone, it does not explain the gloss “surname.”
𘂨 is Tangut, not Chinese or an emoji. The scripts may look alike, but Tangut writes a different language.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘂨 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
