tangut ideograph-17edd

Tangut character 𗻝

3806/6136

𗻝 is a Tangut character used to write the Tangut language, not an emoji or Chinese character. Its design was modeled chiefly on Chinese writing, with likely influence from Khitan scripts. In 1036, Xixia (Western Xia) made it official as a political marker of autonomy from Song and Khitan powers. After the state fell in 1227, Tangut writing survived in Buddhist inscriptions dated 1345 and 1502.

Why does 𗻝 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
