What 𗼳 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “dirt.” Its reconstructed reading is transcribed war in a scholarly Latin-letter system. The Tangut script was created under the first emperor of Western Xia, a medieval Tangut kingdom, around 1036 CE to write the Tangut language in official, private, and religious texts.
After Western Xia fell to the Mongols, later dynasties continued using the script before it became obsolete. As of 2026, readers encounter Tangut in dictionaries, historical texts, and script study.
Is 𗼳 Chinese?
No. It is a Tangut character. The Tangut script was devised to write the Tangut language, and its characters deliberately resemble Chinese ideographs. That resemblance does not make 𗼳 readable as Chinese or interchangeable with a Chinese character.
A Unicode Ideographic Description Sequence (IDS)—a notation that describes a character through component signs—records 𗼳 as a left-to-right compound of 𘤆 and 𘡧. These Tangut components describe and index the character's structure; their meanings do not add up to a definition of 𗼳.
How do I type 𗼳?
Use a Tangut input method; display it with a Tangut-capable font. A Tangut input method editor (IME) can search an English gloss, accept handwriting, or look up a code in its loaded dictionary.
As of 2026, a browser may load a Tangut web font while another app may need an installed Tangut font, so the same text can show a glyph in one place and a missing-glyph box in another.
Historical and specialist: it belongs in Tangut dictionaries and historical texts.
Its Chinese-like shape does not make it Chinese text.
