What 𘡧 means
It is a structural piece of Tangut writing.
The number 104 is an index label, not a pronunciation. A component’s role can vary, so read it within the complete character.
Why was Tangut writing developed?
For Western Xia’s government and Buddhist translation.
Created around 1036, Tangut writing served Western Xia’s government and Buddhist translation. It marked a distinct identity beside Song China, drawing on Chinese and Khitan models while remaining a separate script. Surviving manuscripts probably include material from the 12th or early 13th century.
Texts include Buddhist, Confucian, military, and literary works. Yuan and Ming materials preserve Tangut writing after Western Xia fell in 1227. If a font lacks the glyph, it may show a box; the encoded character stays the same.

1Why does 𘡧 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
