What 𗼷 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses this character as “dry.”
Tangut was Western Xia’s language; its script, devised in 1036, gave the state a distinct written identity and carried Buddhist texts. It drew on Chinese forms and developed alongside the older Khitan script, yet remained distinct. Surviving books include Buddhist texts, Chinese and Tibetan translations, and secular works. After Western Xia fell, Tangut still appeared in Buddhist inscriptions; two pillars dated 1502 were the latest datable materials known as of 2025.
Why does 𗼷 show as a box?
Missing Tangut font support is the likely cause.
𗼷 needs a Unicode font with Tangut coverage; Noto Serif Tangut and Tangut Yinchuan are examples.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗼷 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
