What 𗽍 means
It is glossed “protruding, concave.” A linguistic reconstruction writes its Tangut reading as dwəə¹; this is scholarly notation, not an everyday pronunciation guide. A study revisits an earlier proposal that the word came from Chinese 凸 or 突; those characters are possible historical sources, not alternate spellings.
The Tangut script was promulgated in 1036 for the Tangut language. It served the Western Xia state for government records, diplomacy in two languages, Buddhist translations, and books printed from carved wooden blocks.
Two Tangut pillars inscribed with Buddhist dhāraṇī texts (ritual formulas) were erected in 1502; they are the latest Tangut materials whose date is known.
Why does 𗽍 look like Chinese?
Tangut used Chinese regular script as a model. Its square, brush-written forms follow that model, but its characters encode the Tangut language and follow distinct character-building rules.
A Tangut-capable font is needed to display 𗽍. Without that coverage it may appear as a box; different fonts can also draw different outlines for the same encoded character.
Historical and specialist: it belongs in discussions of the Tangut script or language.
A Chinese-style form does not make 𗽍 a Chinese character.
