What 𗽽 means
In Tangut, 𗽽 has the dictionary gloss “clothing.”
That gloss translates a word in the historical Tangut language; it is not a picture whose meaning is self-evident. Outside a Tangut text, add context if readers need to understand “clothing.”
Why was Tangut writing created?
It was made to write Tangut for the Western Xia state.
The script was established around 1036 CE under the first Western Xia emperor for official and cultural work. Chinese and Khitan writing traditions influenced its design, but Tangut is a distinct script for a different language.
Surviving texts include official, private, and religious books, Buddhist scriptures, inscriptions, and manuscripts. Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell; it was obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty, and the latest known inscription is dated 1502.
Historical and specialist; its clothing gloss is clear within Tangut text but needs context elsewhere.
Outside Tangut study, a reader may miss its gloss; label it as a Tangut word when the meaning matters.
