What 𗾿 means
A Tangut dictionary calls it a shell that looks like jade.
In 1036, Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script for a Buddhist canon (a collection of sacred texts) and a separate state identity. Its visual forms drew on Chinese writing; earlier Khitan scripts offered a nearby precedent.
Tangut texts include secular Chinese translations. Buddhist printing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227; a Tangut monument is dated 1502.
