What 𗿍 means
A kind of bird.
A Tangut-Chinese dictionary by Li Fanwen gives a broad bird gloss without naming a species. This is Tangut vocabulary, not a picture that automatically reads as “bird” across languages.
Why did Tangut rulers create a script?
To write Tangut and mark a distinct state identity.
The script was established in 1036. Its square forms drew on Chinese writing, but Tangut characters were made for their own language rather than copied whole. Neighboring Khitan rulers had devised state scripts about a century earlier, a political precedent.
Tangut script served government, Buddhist translation and secular books. After Western Xia fell in 1227, a Buddhist text carved on a stone pillar in 1502 shows that writing outlasted the state.
A Tangut word, not an emotional cue.
Don't use it as a general bird icon; its reading belongs to Tangut.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗿍 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
