What 𘀕 means
It means “spot” or “mark,” including a mark on a deer.
A scholarly reconstruction writes its Tangut reading as *tser; the asterisk marks it as reconstructed.
Tangut was developed under Western Xia’s first emperor around 1036 for state and cultural use. The earliest surviving dated Tangut writing may be from 1070/1071. The script appears in official records, religious works, dictionaries, inscriptions and manuscripts; its use continued into later Yuan and Ming periods before it became obsolete.
Is 𘀕 Chinese?
No. It belongs to Tangut, a separate script for a historical language.
Tangut characters can look like Chinese characters because both use square, brush-written forms. That resemblance does not make them the same script; do not substitute a Han character based on shape alone.
The Sea of Characters, a Tangut rhyming dictionary, analyzes this character as assembled from parts of other Tangut characters. That explains its construction, not a Chinese origin or interchangeable meanings.
How do I type 𘀕?
Use Unicode-aware input if your keyboard has no Tangut keys.
In an app with Unicode hex input, enter 18015; the shortcut depends on the operating system and app.
As of 2026, Noto Serif Tangut and Tangut Yinchuan provide Tangut font coverage. A font without it may show a box, and Tangut fonts can draw the same character differently.
Historical and specialist; outside a Tangut text, add a gloss.
Sent alone, its exact sense may be unclear; ask for context or a gloss.

1Why does 𘀕 appear as a box?
The active font may lack Tangut coverage. Use a Tangut-capable font; the box is a display issue, not a different character.
