What 𘀥 means
𘀥 is a Tangut character with no secure standalone English gloss.
Specialist Tangut references connect it with a word translated as “stomach,” but that word-level evidence does not settle the standalone meaning of 𘀥. Its Unicode name is a number-based identifier, not a translation.
Tangut writing emerged around 1036–1038 as the script of the Western Xia state. It served Tangut-language administration and correspondence, then Buddhist-canon translation and printing. A manuscript fragment from Khara-Khoto, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, carries translated Chinese literary and moral texts. Tangut drew on Chinese writing principles and Khitan script-making precedents, but was not simply derived from Chinese. After the state fell in 1227, Tangut people and Buddhist culture continued in Mongol-era networks.
Why does 𘀥 appear as a box?
The active font lacks a Tangut glyph.
Fonts draw Unicode characters; when a font has no Tangut glyph, an app can show an empty fallback box. A Tangut-capable browser web font may fix the page, while another app may still need a system font that includes Tangut.
A historical dictionary character; its meaning is clearest in a Tangut word.
Treat “stomach” as a word-level clue, not the settled meaning of 𘀥 by itself.

1Why does 𘀥 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
