What 𘂾 means
Its dictionary gloss is “feel” or “sense.” Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary pairs it with Chinese 感 as a gloss and gives kạ as an estimated Tangut pronunciation. 感 translates the word; it is not this glyph’s Chinese form.
The Xixia (Western Xia) state put Tangut writing into official use in 1036 for records and correspondence; scholars also read this as a claim of autonomy from Song China and the Khitans, a neighboring people with their own script. Chinese writing was its main model; Khitan influence is possible. After Xixia fell in 1227, Tangut texts remained in Buddhist use, including a pillar inscription dated 1502.
