What 𘃑 means

Read 𘃑 as “man”; “male,” “offspring,” or “son” can fit in context.

Li Fanwen’s dictionary gives “man”; linguistic analysis also supports the wider range “male, offspring, son.”

Why was Tangut script created?

It gave the Western Xia state a writing system for rule and learning.

Introduced in 1036, Tangut writing served official records, Buddhist translations, and Chinese classics. Chinese writing was its main model; Khitan influence is possible. Writing continued after the state fell in 1227; a Buddhist pillar from 1502 preserves that later use.

Historical and scholarly; opaque in ordinary chat.

Is 𘃑 a Chinese character? No. It is Tangut, though the Tangut script drew chiefly on Chinese writing.

Why does 𘃑 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
