What 𘄒 means
It writes a syllable, not a whole idea. Tangut references identify 𘄒 as a transliteration for the syllable conventionally romanized pa, roughly pronounced “pah.” It represents that sound inside a word; on its own, it does not mean “wisdom.”
The Tangut script was created in 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao as part of state-building; Western Xia was a kingdom in northwestern China. A Buddhist canon—a collection of sacred texts—was a major planned use. A 2020 overview calls a document dated around 1070/1071 a possible earliest known example. Tangut writing drew visual inspiration from Chinese characters, but it is a separate script; looking Chinese does not make 𘄒 a Chinese character.
When does 𘄒 mean wisdom?
Only as part of a larger Buddhist expression. Together, 𘄒𘎑 is conventionally romanized pa rya, roughly “pah-ryah.” It renders Chinese 般若, used for the Sanskrit Buddhist term prajñā, meaning “wisdom.” In household registers—official family records—the sequence also appears in personal names glossed “mountain of prajñā” and “delight of prajñā.”
Historical and specialist; it belongs in Tangut writing or a transliterated Buddhist term, not ordinary modern chat.
If you send it alone in modern chat, add a gloss; its specialist context may be unclear.
