What 𘅛 means
𘅛 names an action; alone, it doesn’t say who bows or why.
Why create Tangut writing?
To write Tangut for Western Xia’s state and cultural life.
Li Yuanhao, Western Xia’s ruler, commissioned the script in 1036. Its earliest surviving document is an official letter from 1072. 𘅛 appears in Homophones, a Tangut dictionary that groups characters by pronunciation; its oldest surviving edition dates to 1132.
Officials used Tangut for records and translations of Chinese classics and Buddhist works. Chinese writing shaped its forms, but Tangut was a separate language. The northern Khitan people had earlier built a state script; whether they directly influenced Tangut is debated. Buddhist printing continued after Western Xia; a Tangut sutra appeared in 1247.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘅛 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
