tangut ideograph-18180

Tangut Character 18180

4481/6136

𘆀 is a Tangut (Xixia) character glossed as “wrong” or “evil.” Its Unicode name is a code-point label, not a translation. Created around 1036 to write Tangut, the script appears in official, private, and Buddhist texts; this glyph occurs in Wenhai, a 12th-century Tangut dictionary. Tangut writing outlasted Western Xia and faded by the Ming’s end. Its forms drew on Chinese writing, but the script is distinct.

What 𘆀 means

As the Chinese dictionary gloss, not another Tangut character.

Its sense includes what is improper or evil; the surrounding Tangut words help determine which translation fits.

Why does 𘆀 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
