What 𘆍 means
A Tangut dictionary pairs it with the Chinese gloss 熟.
That Chinese gloss is a clue, not a spelling to swap in: not every sense of 熟 also belongs to the Tangut word.
Why was Tangut writing created?
To write Tangut and mark the Western Xia state’s distinct identity. Around 1036, ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script; court official Yeli Renrong developed it.
Translating Buddhist scriptures was a major purpose. Tangut writing took inspiration from Chinese writing; neighboring Khitan rulers had also created state scripts, but Tangut was its own system, not a form of Chinese. It also carried Chinese classics and remained in use under the Yuan and Ming dynasties before becoming obsolete by the end of Ming.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
