𘇍 is a Tangut character; its place in a passage depends on the surrounding Tangut text. The script was made for the language of Western Xia, and specialist indexes give reconstructed readings rather than ready English definitions.

What 𘇍 means

It is a Tangut written character, not a complete English definition.

Specialist indexes list reconstructed readings such as mja and ꞏwụ². These are scholarly attempts to represent its sound, not English translations.

Why was the Tangut script created?

It gave the Western Xia state a writing system for Tangut.

The Tangut script's development is conventionally dated to 1036: Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao commissioned it, and Yeli Renrong led the work. It supported the state's written identity and the translation of Buddhist scriptures and Chinese learning.

After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued in religious inscriptions. It appears in the 1345 Juyongguan multilingual Buddhist inscription. A Baoding pillar inscribed with dharani, Buddhist ritual verses, dates to 1502 and is among the latest known examples. The script's forms drew on Chinese writing and neighboring Khitan writing systems, but it represented the distinct Tangut language.

Should you send 𘇍 without context?

Ask what Tangut text it comes from before assigning a meaning.

Without an accompanying passage or translation, you cannot tell whether it is a quotation, a study example, or a font test. Ask the sender where it came from.

Historical and specialist; without context, it reads as an unexplained Tangut character.

If it arrives alone, ask where it came from before assigning a meaning.

Why does 𘇍 look different in some references?

The dictionary form is shown with a final dot, while the encoded chart form has none. That graphic difference does not by itself mean you are seeing a different character.

Can I read 𘇍 as Chinese?

No. Tangut and Chinese are separate writing systems. Tangut writing borrowed design ideas from Chinese and neighboring Khitan scripts, but it represents the Tangut language.
