What 𘇴 means
The dictionary meaning is “to make wine or vinegar.”
Tangut script history begins in 1036, when ruler Li Yuanhao ordered it for state use, Buddhist translation, and an identity distinct from Song China. A manuscript from Khara-khoto, a ruin in Inner Mongolia, probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut writing drew on Chinese script but did not derive from it. The Tanguts followed their neighbors the Khitan, who had made two scripts about a century earlier. Tangut books included Buddhist and nonreligious translations.
