Tangut Character 181FE

4607/6136

𘇾 is a Tangut character; Unicode's label isn't a translation. A Tangut ruler commissioned the script around 1036 for Buddhist translation and a distinct state identity; it later carried official and secular texts. After the Tangut state of Western Xia (Xixia) fell in 1227, Tangut writing remained in use into the Ming dynasty. Chinese writing influenced Tangut, but it was distinct; neighboring Khitan states had developed scripts a century earlier.

Why does 𘇾 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
