Tangut Ideograph 18263

4708/6136

𘉣 is a Tangut character whose English meaning depends on the surrounding word or passage. The script served Xixia government writing and translations, then appeared in Buddhist religious writing. Sent alone, 𘉣 reads like a historical-script reference, not a shared chat reaction.

What 𘉣 means

Modern references give no settled English gloss as of 2026. For a Tangut 𘉣 reading, look at the whole word and passage: scholars have reconstructed its sound, but sound alone is not a reliable translation.

The Xixia (Western Xia) court introduced the Tangut script in 1036 for government writing and translations of Buddhist and Chinese works. Its design drew on Chinese and Khitan scripts, but Tangut signs are assembled from smaller parts rather than drawn as pictures. The character is recorded in Sea of Writing, a Tangut rhyme dictionary dated 1124–31.

What should I do if someone sent me 𘉣?

Ask for the word or passage; the glyph alone is unclear. A reader who knows Tangut may place 𘉣 in a written word; if you do not read the script, the isolated glyph gives you no dependable English reply. In a chat, ask which passage the sender has in mind before treating it as a reaction.

Tangut writing continued after Western Xia's government use: a pair of Buddhist dhāraṇī pillars in Baoding are dated 1502. A dhāraṇī is a sacred Buddhist formula; the pillars show Tangut writing in later religious settings, not a new chat meaning for 𘉣.

Historical and specialist; in an ordinary chat it reads like a Tangut-script reference, not a shared reaction.

Do not treat a lone 𘉣 as a specific English reply.
