What 𘉲 means
Use 𘉲 in HTML or \u{18272} in modern JavaScript.
These forms work in source code, not as plain-text keyboard shortcuts. A Tangut-capable font is also needed to display the Western Xia character; without one, it may appear as a box or fallback glyph even though the text still contains 𘉲.
What does 𘉲 mean?
It is a Tangut character glossed “appetite.”
In 1036, Tangut emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script's creation for Western Xia state-building and a Tangut Buddhist canon, a collection of scriptures. About a century earlier, the neighboring Khitan people had created two scripts, one largely based on Chinese writing. Tangut writing followed that example and drew visual and structural inspiration from Chinese, but did not derive from it.
A manuscript fragment found in the ruins of Khara-Khoto in Inner Mongolia, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, translates Chinese anecdotes about morality and proper conduct into Tangut. Later Tangut inscriptions are known through 1502.
