What 𘉹 means
A dictionary gloss belongs to a two-character expression containing it.
Tangut dictionaries record 𗀀𘉹 as a two-character expression translated as “utter hatred.” That translation applies to the phrase as a whole, not to 𘉹 alone.
Why did the Western Xia develop Tangut writing?
Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script in 1036 as part of building the Western Xia state. Its visual forms and writing principles were inspired by Chinese writing, but the script was not derived from it. A Tangut version of the Buddhist canon—a collection of Buddhist scriptures—was a likely goal, alongside state records. Khitan neighbors had created separate scripts earlier; Jurchen was another distinct writing tradition.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘉹 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
