What 𘋜 means
It means “bodhisattva”: a being on Buddhism’s path to awakening.
Tangut is a distinct historical language, so this is not a Mandarin reading.
In 1036, Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao commissioned the Tangut script as a state-building project. Its design drew on Chinese writing; neighboring Khitan states had developed two scripts about a century earlier.
Tangut writing was used for government and Buddhist scriptures; manuscripts also preserve Chinese works in translation. One found at Khara-Khoto, a ruined town in Inner Mongolia, probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century.
