What 𘋲 means

Its dictionary gloss is “to play.”

A Tangut dictionary index lists the entry as L5627 and gives the reconstructed reading lu. That spelling represents a scholarly estimate of Tangut pronunciation; it is not part of the English gloss.

Why was the Tangut script created?

To write Tangut for the Western Xia state. The script was promulgated in 1036, two years before the dynasty’s founding, for official writing and cultural projects. Its forms were distinct from Chinese characters, though its methods for constructing characters were influenced by Chinese.

After the Western Xia state fell in 1227, Tangut texts continued to be produced, especially Buddhist works; surviving sources also include printing materials and legal and administrative texts.

How do I type or display Tangut 182F2?

Use an input method that accepts U182F2 and a Tangut-capable font.

It is a supplementary-plane character, so older or restricted input fields may refuse it even when a suitable font can display it. A box means the app cannot draw this Tangut glyph.

Historical and specialist; this is a Tangut word, not an everyday tone cue.

A recipient who cannot read Tangut will not see the English gloss “to play” in the glyph.

Why does Tangut 182F2 display as a box?

It is a font or app problem. The current software lacks a Tangut glyph; use an app and font that support Tangut and supplementary-plane characters.

Can I use 𘋲 as a Chinese character?

No. It belongs to Tangut, a separate script for the Tangut language. Tangut character-building was influenced by Chinese writing, but 𘋲 is not a Han character or Chinese word.
