What 𘍬 means
The dictionary gives its meaning as “a surname.”
A Tangut–Chinese dictionary compiled by Li Fanwen lists 𘍬 with that meaning. In a historical text, the surrounding words identify whose surname is meant; this character alone does not name the person.
Where did Tangut writing come from?
The Tangut script was developed for the Western Xia state.
Tradition credits its creation to court scholar Yeli Renrong and other scholars. Western Xia made it the official written language in 1036, giving the state a written system for administration and an identity distinct from Chinese.
Texts from the Khara-Khoto site include dictionaries, Buddhist scriptures, and translations of Chinese classics. The Cloud Platform inscription shows Tangut writing remained readable after Western Xia collapsed. Chinese character design influenced Tangut, a separate script; the Khitan and Jurchen states developed their own scripts in the same broad period, not alternate forms of 𘍬.
Why does 𘍬 look different?
The font supplies the visible strokes.
Fonts with Tangut coverage can draw 𘍬 differently; without one, a box or fallback glyph may appear.
Some older Tangut texts use legacy encodings that place Tangut values in character slots intended for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean text. Convert that material to Unicode before combining it with Unicode text.

Questions people ask
2Is 𘍬 Chinese?
No. It belongs to the Tangut script, whose design was influenced by Chinese writing. That influence does not make this character Chinese.
Why does 𘍬 show as a box?
Your font or software may lack Tangut coverage. Use a font that supports Tangut; the box is a missing-glyph fallback, not another character.
