tangut ideograph-1836d

Tangut character for cleverness

4974/6136

𘍭 is glossed “cleverness” in Tangut. The Xixia script began around 1036 to write Tangut and mark Western Xia's independence from China's Song dynasty; it served government, Buddhist translations, and Chinese books. Its forms draw on Chinese writing but are Tangut, not Chinese; the Western Xia court followed neighboring Khitans, who had created their own script about a century earlier. The script survived into the Ming period.

What 𘍭 means

No; the dictionary gloss cannot prove that intent.

The Tangut character is glossed “cleverness,” but one glyph could be a quotation or a fragment. If you want a compliment understood, add words your recipient reads.

Treat it as a historical Tangut word, not a built-in chat compliment.

Don't assume a sender is calling you clever.

Why does 𘍭 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
