What 𘎇 means
Its Unicode name identifies it; it does not translate the character. Tangut is a distinct historical script for the Tangut language, once spoken in northwestern China. Its characters can resemble Chinese characters, but Tangut is a separate writing system.
Created around 1036 under the first emperor of Western Xia, Tangut was used for official, private, and religious writing. Texts originally ran top to bottom in columns arranged right to left; the script continued under Yuan and Ming and became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century; work by Nikolai Nevsky in the early 20th century helped decipher it.
𘎇 appears at position 59.211 in the Wén Hǎi (“Sea of Writing”), a Tangut dictionary; a separate index lists it as entry 681 under component 𘦯. These are lookup locations, not an English translation of the character.
Why does 𘎇 show as a square?
The font cannot draw this character. A blank box or empty space can appear when the selected font lacks Tangut glyphs, even though the text still contains 𘎇. A Tangut-capable font can display it; changing fonts changes its drawn shape, not its identity.
A character from a historical script, encountered in Tangut texts and scholarship.
A blank box is a font-coverage problem, not evidence the character is invalid.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘎇 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
