What 𘐨 means
In Tangut, it means “song.”
𘐨 belongs to Tangut writing, not Chinese writing; “song” is its Tangut gloss, not a Mandarin reading. A study of character parts links it to 𗫭, another Tangut character glossed “sing”; both contain the same recurring written part associated with “song.”
Tangut writing served official records, political identity, and Buddhist translation. It continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties after Western Xia fell, then became obsolete by the Ming’s end. Historical texts used vertical columns read top to bottom, right to left; Unicode 16.0 lays them out horizontally, left to right, and fonts may vary the character’s shape.
In Tangut texts or script study, it reads as a historical word; elsewhere its meaning may be unclear.
Its Tangut gloss is “song,” not a universal song symbol.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘐨 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
