What 𘑑 means
It means “leopard” in Tangut. Li Fanwen’s Tangut-Chinese dictionary gives that gloss. Sent alone, read it as writing, not an emoji reaction.
Is 𘑑 a Chinese character?
No. It is Tangut writing. Tangut resembles Chinese, but it is a distinct script shaped by Chinese visual ideas. This glyph is Tangut, not a Chinese character.
Why was Tangut script created?
It began as a Western Xia state project. Created around 1036, the script was meant to write Tangut and mark an identity distinct from Song China; a major aim was a Tangut Buddhist canon.
Tangut writing later carried official, private, Buddhist, and translated texts. It remained in use in the Yuan and Ming periods, mainly for religious writing.
