What 𘑥 means
𘑥 is a Tangut character; its Unicode label is not its meaning.
Scholars reconstruct its reading, but the surrounding passage is needed to know which word or meaning it carries.
The Tangut script, also called Xixia, was created under the first Western Xia emperor around 1036 CE for official and cultural needs. Chinese writing influenced its development, but Tangut remained a distinct script. After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing continued under Yuan and Ming rule in official, private and religious texts, including books, sutras, inscriptions and manuscripts, and became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
What if someone sends 𘑥?
A lone 𘑥 identifies a character; context gives its meaning.
Ask for the surrounding Tangut text or a scholarly transcription. Tangut sources preserve variant glyph shapes, and different outlines do not always indicate different characters.
