What 𘑰 means
𘑰 is glossed as “silent.” It is a written word in Tangut, the language used in the medieval Western Xia state.
The Tangut script was created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor for government records, legal texts, Buddhist translations and other books. Historical pages were written top to bottom in columns read from right to left. Tangut writing continued in religious texts after 1227, through the Yuan and Ming periods, before falling out of use.
Historical and scholarly; label it as Tangut when its meaning matters.
Its square form can look Chinese; identify the script as Tangut when the distinction matters.
